You've got questions, we love that! Curious people are exactly who this community was built for.

All you need to know
Subscription:
-
It’s simple: you choose your level of commitment and we handle the rest. Pick The Spark (Monthly), The Rally (3 Months), or The Resistance (6 Months) and your subscription will automatically renew for your chosen time frame at the end of each cycle. We keep the stories flowing without interruption so your library never stops growing.
-
We don’t believe in "off-limits." We thoughtfully curate titles from banned book lists across Canada (stories that have been challenged or removed from schools or libraries). You’ll see everything from modern young adult classics and memoirs to essential social advocacy texts. If a book has been targeted for its message of empathy, identity, or justice, it has a home here.
-
A book is just the beginning. Every box includes a synopsis of the selected book and deep-dive on why that specific title was challenged. You’ll also get our signature Reflection Questions (perfect for solo thinking or to get your next book club talking) and a few Action Prompts to help you turn those ideas into community movement. To top it off, we include one or two hand-picked or hand-made extras to keep with the message.
-
Absolutely! There’s no better way to build the movement than by sharing a story. During checkout, just put your friend's address in the shipping section. In the ‘Special Instructions’ box at checkout, let us know if it’s a surprise or if you want us to send them a heads-up email. Don't forget to include a short note, and we’ll print it on a card and tuck it inside so they know exactly who's helping build their library.
-
We keep the mission moving forward automatically so your shelf never stays empty. You’ll be charged for your first box the moment you join the movement. After that, your billing cycle depends on the level you’ve chosen:
● The Spark (Monthly): You’ll be re-billed at the end of each month for your next single box.
● The Rally (3 Months): You’ll be re-billed every three months for your next trio of stories.
● The Resistance (6 Months): You’ll be re-billed every six months to keep your half-year of reading going.
Regardless of your level, you’ll always be billed at the end of your chosen cycle. If you ever need to take a break, just log into your account to cancel before your next billing date. You’re always in the driver’s seat. -
We’re building this movement from the ground up, starting in our own backyard. Currently, Lit Resistance ships exclusively within Canada. Whether you’re in a big city or a small town from coast to coast, we’ll get these stories to your door.
-
We believe in the freedom of choice, which includes the freedom to step away. You can unsubscribe from the auto-renewal at any time, no questions asked. Just log into your account and cancel before your next automatic re-billing date to stop future shipments. We’ll be here with an open book whenever you’re ready to rejoin the movement.
-
Sometimes the stack on the nightstand gets a little too high—we get it. If you need a breather, you can easily pause your subscription from your account page. You won’t be charged while your membership is on hold, and you can jump back into the conversation whenever you’re ready to restart. Your spot at the table will be waiting for you.
Books:
-
A banned book is a book that someone in power decided the rest of us shouldn't read. It might be pulled from a school library, removed from a classroom, or quietly disappeared from a public collection, always with the same impulse: to decide for a whole community what ideas are too dangerous. It's happening right now across Canada, in many schools and libraries, and the books most often targeted are the ones that reflect the voices of people who have been historically marginalized: stories about race, identity, sexuality, and the courage it takes to live truthfully. We’re here to make sure those voices stay loud and clear.
-
Part of the Lit Resistance experience is the element of discovery! To keep our movement unified, everyone receives the same curated title each month. We spend a lot of time picking books that are timely, impactful, and maybe a little outside your usual comfort zone. Think of it as a community-wide read-along where we’re all on the same page at the same time.
-
Our selections generally fall into the Young Adult (YA) and Adult categories, though don’t be surprised if a children’s book makes its way into the box on occasion. The themes can sometimes be complex or challenging across different genres and there may even be some animated stories. While we believe these stories are vital for everyone, we recommend that parents or guardians check out our monthly "Why It’s Banned" write-up if they’re sharing the box with younger readers.
-
If you already own the monthly pick, consider it an opportunity to spread the movement! You can gift your extra copy to a friend, leave it in a "Little Free Library," or donate it to a local community center. The goal of Lit Resistance is to get these stories into as many hands as possible and you’re an important link in the chain.
-
The movement is built one story at a time. If you’re curious about the books we’ve already championed, you can explore our full history in The Archive.
There you’ll find past selections, why they were challenged, and the conversations they sparked along the way. Some boxes may have already found their homes, but the stories and the impact they created are still very much alive.
Whether you’re looking for your next read, revisiting an old favourite, or building your own banned books list, The Archive is a good place to begin.
Shipping:
-
We believe in keeping things simple and transparent so shipping is included in the price of every subscription and standalone box. There are no surprise fees at checkout—the price you see is the price you pay to get these stories delivered anywhere in Canada, from coast to coast.
-
To ensure every community member is on the same page, we send out our boxes in one wave mid-month. This allows us to curate and pack each kit with the care it deserves. Once your box is on its way, we’ll send a notification to your inbox so you can get ready for your next deep dive.
Book Clubs:
-
We’d love to help you find, or add to ,your crew. Head over to the Chapter Submission Form to pin your club to The Living Room.
-
That’s the goal! If a club is pinned in The Living Room, it means they are actively looking for new voices and fresh perspectives. Each listing will let you know if they meet in person or online, and how to get in touch with the organizer to pull up a chair.
-
Change is part of the process. If your meeting time shifts or you’ve reached capacity and need to take your pin off the board, just send us a message to litresist@gmail.com. Tell us what needs to change, and we’ll handle the updates so the community stays on the same page.
